Hello World! IAM Rafael Morel
Some people build skyscrapers out of steel — I build digital ones out of code.
I didn’t start my career in front of a computer. I started high above the streets of New York City, wearing a hard hat, welding steel, and helping construct some of the world’s most iconic structures. I was a union ironworker — until the pandemic shut down construction and changed everything.
With a 4-month-old baby at home and the world on pause, I returned to an old passion that had been with me since my Commodore 64 days: coding. What began as late-night experiments turned into a relentless pursuit of knowledge, and soon into real-world projects. Baby on my shoulder, laptop in front of me — that’s how I rebuilt my career.
Today, I’m a full stack .NET developer who builds SaaS platforms, progressive web apps, and cross-platform solutions that run seamlessly on web, iOS, and Android. I specialize in Blazor, .NET Core, Tailwind CSS, SQL, and cloud DevOps pipelines — and I love exploring how AI can transform everyday workflows. My journey from steel beams to software taught me grit, precision, and the value of building things that last.
For me, development isn’t just about code. It’s about solving problems, crafting elegant solutions, and constantly pushing myself to learn and grow. I bring the same focus and work ethic from my construction days into every project I take on.
Outside of code, I’m endlessly curious. I like exploring big ideas, finding humor in the process (why don’t programmers like nature? too many bugs 🐛), and always looking for ways to make the work both fun and meaningful.
This blog is where I share my journey — the lessons I’ve learned, the projects I’ve built, and the ideas I’m chasing. I hope it gives you a glimpse not just into my work, but into the way I think, create, and grow as a developer. Stay tuned — the best is yet to come.
